Adbusters is a media foundation created in Canada in 1989 by Kalle Lasn and Bill Schmalz. Their main platform is a reader supported, ad-free & worldwide distributed magazine with a print run up to 120,000. Past and present collaborators include Franco Bifo Berardi, David Graeber, Michael Hardt, Chris Hedges, Bill McKibben, Slavoj Žižek, and others. They have launched a series of international campaigns, most notoriously Buy Nothing Day, TV turn off Week and Occupy Wall Street. The magazine is famous for its use of ‘subvertisements’ where they spoof and prank advertisements and corporations - aiming at hacking the commercial narrative and opening space to discuss real issues that matters at this point in time: Climate change, consumerism, corporations dominance and finance markets.
