The projects chosen for the 63rd edition of the awards stand out for an environmentally sensitive and transformative architecture that questions ways of living

ARQUIN-FAD has revealed the shortlist of candidates for the 63rd awards edition, one of the longest-standing awards in Europe in the field and one of the most prestigious in the Iberian Peninsula. The projects chosen stand out for an environmentally sensitive and transformative architecture that questions ways of living.

ARQUIN-FAD, the association promoting the Awards, closed the call in January with a total of 471 works submitted: 368 corresponding to the FAD Awards for Architecture and Interior Design, 36 to the International FAD Awards and 67 to the FAD Awards for Thought and Critique

Architecture & Interior Design FAD Awards

The jury that has assessed the works was formed by renowned professionals inthe sector: the architect Fabrizio Barozzi , president of the jury, accompanied by members Agnès Blanch, Daria de Seta, Manel Marín, Pedro Matos Gameiro and Rosa Rull . In this edition, the jury has chosen 21 shortlist projects and 38 longlist projects works selected in the different categories.

In the category of Architecture, the jury highlighted projects that interpret with sensitivity constructed or natural landscapes, that find opportunities in transforming rather than inventing, that question ways of living and reflect on the possibilities of building materials and systems.

In the category of Interior Design, there is a tendency for interventions that extend the limits of interior design, which expand the ideas of preservation and reuse by finding, in seemingly unqualified areas, hidden narratives capable of revealing the hidden potential of the space.

In the category of City and Landscape, projects that put architecture at the service of people, that intensify the experience of the public, that work with identity characters, that make up spaces by defining approaches which highlight physical and sensory experiences were pointed out.

Finally, in the category of Ephemeral Interventions, interventions that, despite being ephemeral, give meaning and communicative and evocative value to the object itself, which create allusive and dreamlike worlds capable of questioning the notion of reality revealing other mental landscapes that coexist with physical reality, were also highlighted.

International FAD Awards

The International FAD Awards celebrates their 8th edition this year, with a total of 36 proposals received from which 4 finalist projects and 6 selected projects have been chosen; projects that highlight the work of the peninsula’s architects in the international context with works in Mexico, Taiwan and Paraguay.

The professional jury of the International FAD Awards was chaired this year by Ricardo Bofill, with Lucía Ferrater and Pau Sarquella as members.

Thought & Critique FAD Awards

The FAD Awards for Thought and Critique, which bring together the best texts dedicated to architecture published throughout the year 2020, are in their 16th edition this year.

The jury, formed by Jorge Torres as president and the members Susana Landrove and Joan Olona, chose a total of 6 finalist works and 6 selected from the 67 works presented, which stand out for their research and critical knowledge of architecture and its surroundings.
