Currently ARQUIN-FAD annually announces these awards: FAD Awards for Architecture and Interior Design, FAD Awards for Thought and Critique and International FAD Award.
The FAD awards were established in 1958 with the aim of promoting current state-of-the-art artwork and recognising the quality of traditional languages in opening new paths.
Nowadays, the same desire of promoting the values of architecture and interior design in our everyday social cultural lives still lives on, and the initial creative field has expanded in the last few years, adapting the Awards to a more complicated and fickle reality than ever.
Since the first awards in 1958, the FAD Awards have evolved by expanding their scope and diversity of the chosen artworks. Firstly, only artwork that was created in the city of Barcelona was awarded, this later expanded to the metropolitan area (1978), then the whole of Catalonia (1987), and finally to the Iberian Peninsula (1996). However, since the beginning, artworks in the category of architecture and interior design have been selected and awarded, and moreover, since 1993 artworks on exterior spaces (city and landscape), ephemeral work (ephemeral interventions) and as of 2006, publications of architectural thinking and criticism have also been awarded. In 2013, the International FAD Award were set up for architectural artworks created all over the world, however, their studio has to be situated in Spain or Portugal.
