The main goal is to encourage designers and attendees to reflect on their future role in their discipline in regards to technology.
Visions of future is the first edition of Design Beyond Technology born from the need to position Barcelona on the international map of gatherings on design, innovation and new technologies. Design Beyond Technology is the new project promoted by the FAD’s Industrial Design Association on a biennial basis, alternating with the reputable ADI Awards. The sessions will take place on 21 and 22 March 2019 at the Disseny Hub Barcelona building.
The sessions are structured around four key concepts: design, technology, future and society. The main goal is to encourage designers and attendees to reflect on their future role in their discipline in regards to technology. Will the best option be to position oneself on the vertex where design and technology converge?
One of the strengths of the sessions is that they bring together in Barcelona speakers of international renown drawn from the new technologies sector; the other is acting as a platform for raising the profile of local experts. We have talent, we have innovation, we think in terms of the future, so let’s show the world.
We are living in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is characterized by the fusion of technologies currently in development and is currently breaking down barriers between the physical, digital and biological spheres. We therefore believe that design has to be integrated into any project process right from the start so as to cease being an aesthetic solution and start spearheading the future of technology at the service of society.
Whom does it target?
Design Beyond Technology is aimed at designers and engineers, technology companies and start-ups as well as universities and research centres. Likewise, it is also a project devised for the general public, for anyone wanting to know about and learn new concepts halfway between design and technology.
What does it consist of?
DBT offers one-day and two-day admissions. The programme includes different activities: DBT conferences, DBT Case Study and DBT Meet a Company. In Design Beyond Technology participants will discover the mapping of possible futures, many of them speculative and other tangible ones.
