ADI-FAD

ORGANIZATION | The Industrial Design for Development of Decorative Arts Association (ADI-FAD) is a nonprofit cultural organization whose main objective is the dissemination and promotion of Industrial Design in social, cultural, institutional and business fields. Since its founding in Barcelona in 1960 it has accomplished intense activity. It is run by a member-elected Board of Directors. Through the Board, all kinds of activities are scheduled, but members can directly participate in proposing new activities and initiatives.

ADI-FAD has been a full member of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) since 1961. Due to its non-corporate status, ADI-FAD members are industrial designers, students, professionals from other related disciplines, and people, companies or entities interested in the development of design culture.

HISTORY | In 1957, thanks to the drive of Antoni de Moragas, a first attempt was made at creating a design institution at the College of Architects of Catalonia. Three years later, in 1960, a group of people interested in design saw the possibility of integrating as a design section into the Association for the Promotion of Decorative Arts (FAD),which already included other groups. That same year, on March 16, the FAD Industrial Design Association (ADI-FAD) was founded, with the first Board of Directors chaired by Antoni de Moragas.

Since then, ADI-FAD has distinguished itself in the field of industrial design in Catalonia and Spain thanks the leadership position it has achieved. The development and continuation of the organization is reinforced by experience accumulated during fifty years of activities, representation and the number of members, as well as the institution’s presence of on the international scene.
